Abdullah’s Talking About the Talks

Sharp dressed man and Afghanistan’s CEO Dr. Abdullah Abdullah told his cabinet that peace talks with the Taliban would be happening soon.

Speaking during the cabinet meeting on Monday Dr. Abdullah insisted that no compromise would be made with the 13 years of achievements while negotiating peace with the Taliban group.

Dr. Abdullah assured that the peace negotiations would be only for the betterment and stability of the country.

According to Abdullah Washington has also shown flexibility in Afghan peace process which has led to satisfaction of the government of Afghanistan.

But for those Afghans worried about their civil rights, no need to worry, those are going to be just fine.

“Peace doesn’t mean to make a deal on honor, prestige and rights of the people. If these efforts are taken place in respect to these points, then they are based on people’s demands.”

Of course he’s talking about deals being made with people who executed people in football stadiums because naturally justice needs to be a spectator sport. That’s not to say if a peace deal were struck with the Taliban that they’d immediately start lopping off heads in Ghazi Stadium again, but they aren’t known for being terribly progressive. And while Afghanistan’s not exactly a paragon of progress, there have been some real gains made in the country since the Taliban were in power.

How much they’d be able to walk back those gains once a power sharing agreement was reached (and that’s the only way this thing ends well at all) isn’t clear, but good luck to the National Unity Government in making this one work. Complicating all of this of course is the presence of the Americans and their agendas at the table, but the fact that talks are being talked about as much as they are might lead to something hopeful.
